Dutch scientists invent nano-coatings that increase the efficiency of solar cells

The Netherlands Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics recently issued a press release saying that its scientists have developed a special nano-coating that can significantly increase the efficiency of solar cells.

The reflection of light is a natural phenomenon and it is annoying for solar cells. The silicon wafer used in the existing solar cell panel has a solar reflectance as high as 40%, which seriously affects the efficiency of the solar cell.

Dutch scientists have designed a special nano coating. The nanoparticles in the coating are cylindrical structures, and the cylinders are just enough to capture sunlight.

In the experiment, Dutch scientists used a new type of “printing” technology developed by Philips to successfully print nano-coatings directly onto silicon wafers of existing solar cells. As a result, it was found that the printed silicon wafer was black and the reflectance was greatly reduced.

Albert Pullman, head of the research group, said, “The new coating is not only suitable for solar cells, but also has broad application prospects in the fields of ordinary cameras and video cameras, as well as optical instruments.” (Reporter Pan Zhi)
