EdgeCAM is an intelligent CNC programming system developed by Planit Holdings Group of the United Kingdom. This system can continuously help users to improve production efficiency. For the same part, the processing time required by different programming methods may vary greatly, and the programmer's programming quality and efficiency have a greater impact on production efficiency. This article will mainly introduce EdgeCAM in the turning and milling process. The application allows us to experience the more efficient CNC programming methods that EdgeCAM brings to us.
Since different CNC systems have different programming instruction codes, they should be programmed according to the device type. Take the turning and milling center equipment of our factory as an example, the control system is FANUC series, and the example programming of our company's product "21079 products".

Machine configuration: single spindle, single tool holder with Y axis, C axis and each tool position can be installed with radial or axial power tool
The processing flow of this part is mainly divided into the following three main parts:
1. Turning processing, including rough finishing of end faces and outer circles;
2. Center hole processing, including initial drilling, boring, etc.;
3. Milling flange end face and hexagon.
Because EdgeCAM has a direct reading interface to Solidworks files, our Solidworks model data is kept intact in the EdgeCAM environment, and the function of automatically defining the blank can be used to automatically build the blank model according to the outer contour size of the part; The automatic feature search function provided by the software finds the contour features of the turning process. The automation of these functions allows us to quickly complete the preparation of the machining.
In addition, when selecting a machining tool, the tool library provided by EdgeCAM can directly input the standard code of the turning tool. Since most of the tools used in our factory are Sandvik tools, only the tool number can be input, and the 3D model of the tool can be obtained, which reduces the process of building the tool.
In the turning process, in order to reduce the number of tool changes, we have used a double-edged tool to complete all the turning operations under the premise of the processing conditions. The machining tool path is as follows:
