To meet market demand, Japanese chemical companies are accelerating the expansion of polyacetal resin production capacity in Asia. According to estimates by Japan's Polyplastics, global polyacetal market demand will reach 900,000 tons/year this year, of which more than 50% of demand will occur in Asia. Asian polyacetal market demand is growing rapidly at an average annual rate of 4%-8%.
Japan's Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals said on June 3 this year that by 2013 it will increase its polyacetal production capacity in Thailand from the current 55,000 tons/year to 100,000 tons/year. The company will increase the production capacity of the 55,000 t/a polyacetal plant in Mata, Thailand, to 60,000 tons/year, and a new 40,000 t/y unit will be built. The new production capacity will be put into commercial operation from the second quarter of 2013. The company's current polyacetal plant in Thailand is operated by Polyactal, of which Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals owns 70% of the shares and the remaining 30% is held by TOA Dovechem Industries. Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals also stated that due to the limited energy expansion of Thai projects, it is also considering building new projects in other countries, and considering the ease of availability of raw materials and proximity to the market, it tends to choose to build a new plant in Brunei.
