International Power Network News: Recently, Deloitte & Touche Certified Public Accounts was commissioned by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) to write a report titled “The Impact of Wind Energy on the Macroeconomy†and analyzed the development prospects of the European wind power industry and its driving role in economic development. The report pointed out that in recent years, the wind power industry in Belgium has developed rapidly. As of the end of 2011, the installed capacity of wind power reached 1,078 megawatts, nearly 4 times that of 2007. In 2010, the output value of wind power industry reached 315 million euros, which is 60% higher than that in 2007, creating 6,000 jobs, an increase of 70% over 2007. The report believes that the wind power industry can produce a large pulling effect on the macro economy. The pulling effect of wind power industry R&D on the economy is 50% higher than that of other industries. Wind power equipment maintenance management creates a large number of jobs, and this type of employment is highly local and cannot be easily transferred. Wind power can also reduce carbon emissions and reduce fossil energy imports. The report predicts that by 2020, Belgium’s wind power industry will have a production value of 1.4 billion euros and 9,000 related jobs.
