A few days ago, a man named JonathanCook started from scratch and made a smart watch OSWatch with a 3D printer and won the MakerMedia Arduino award.
“When I started this smartwatch project, I set a few goals in my heart,†Jonathan said. He wants to develop a 100% Arduino-compatible hardware; it should be simple, but be prepared for future upgrades with sufficient program storage space; battery life should be at least 1 day.
This is a very time consuming project. Jonathan spent nine months developing OSWatch. The dial, back, logical frame, connection port and strap are all printed by Jonathan using a modified PrintrbotSimple3D printer. The watch's core contains three small control modules: a Microduino-Core+, a BluegigaBLE112 chip and a voltage regulator.
Except for the same as a regular watch? ? Time and date features, OSWatch also has email, Facebook notifications, Twitter update tips. Jonathan hopes that other experts in the community can further expand the capabilities of OSWatch. "I think of it as the first open source Pebble," Jonathan told Make magazine. Pebble is a smart watch compatible with iPhone and Android phones designed by Silicon Valley startup PebbleTechnology. Users can view iMessage messages on iOS devices directly through Pebble watches.
Jonathan shared all the source files of the OSWatch smart watch on his website oswatch.org, and how to DIY your own open source smart watch documentation, as well as all the parts of the STL file, Xcode and Arduino files are free. download.
