Taigang is located in Jiancao, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, and is one of the key expansion and reconstruction projects during the “Twenty-Five†period. In 1990, it produced 1.33 million tons of iron, 1.79 million tons of steel and 960,000 tons of steel. Taigang has abundant coking coal resources and complete varieties, which is the outstanding advantage of Taigang's layout. Tai (original) ancient (cross) 岚 (county) iron ore is one of the major iron ore mines in China; however, the ore grade is low and the mining area is scattered. Insufficient water resources, tight transportation and defects in iron ore resources are the limiting factors for the further development of TISCO.
TISCO is also a special steel production base in China, mainly producing high quality plates.
