Iran's smelter expansion will use Dubai Aluminum's unique technology

Dubai-based aluminum producer Dubal will provide its unique technology for the expansion of the Iranian Al Mahdi smelter.

Alcoa Dubai has reached an agreement with Fata Group to expand its technology. This is the first time that Alcoa's technology has been used in factories other than Dubai Aluminum.

The Al-Mahdi smelter expansion project mainly includes the construction of a new electrolysis cell in a smelter with an annual output of 110,000 tons, which will increase its production capacity to 257,000 tons. This will be the second electrolytic cell in the smelter.

It will use D20 electrolysis technology and electrolysis plant control information technology from Dubai Aluminum.

The first phase of the project will be put into production in the fourth quarter of 2008.
