SiOnyx produces polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic cells with 17% efficiency

SiOnyx revealed that its patented ultrafast laser texturing technology, BlackSilicon, has grown 0.3% more than the absolute efficiency of traditional industrial baseline solar cells. The company's 156mm polysilicon battery was produced by the company in cooperation with ISCKonstanz, and it is claimed that the average absolute efficiency exceeds 17%.

SiOnyx said that its Black Silicon technology can achieve such high efficiency because the silicon is thinner. The average efficiency of a 150-micron-thick polycrystalline silicon cell that is 20% thinner than an ordinary cell reaches 16.9%.
