However, researchers at North Carolina State University in the United States have recently developed a liquid metal wire that can be flexibly retracted to a maximum of 8 times its original length. Previously, scientists have begun to study electrically conductive metal wires with retractable properties by adding metal particles in a hollow, stretchable fiber tube, but wires made using this method are less flexible or less flexible. The new researched elastic wire uses a similar method, except that the internal conductive metal is replaced by a gallium-indium liquid alloy, which enables the new wire to maintain good electrical and mechanical properties when stretched.
