UAVs can use a complex set of algorithms to find and use hot air currents to fly in the air, eliminating the need for large amounts of energy. "The birds naturally fly, and they use only natural, peanut-sized brains," said Ashish Kapoor, chief researcher. However, artificial intelligence does not have a brain. Therefore, it must not only realize real-time consideration of air temperature, but also accurately predict the location of the next hot gas flow and successfully capture it. Just in case, the research team installed a motor for this drone. The tester could remotely control and prevent the test drone from falling.
The ultimate goal of this test is to allow UAVs to use solar energy and wind energy permanently in the sky, or to become autonomous floating towers, like Google's Project Loon and Facebook's Tether-antenna.
